Solved: Pontiac grand am power window not working?

Most of the nowadays latest cars have power windows instead of manual windows.

And this problem is very common.

First verify that the fuse or circuit breaker for the windows is OK. Most cars use the same power circuit for all of the windows, so if only one of them isn't working, it's a pretty safe bet that the fuses are OK.

Try this few possibilities and see if it helps or not.

Shut the car off and then restart and directly operate power windows and see if it works or try wiggling the key in the ignition and see if it works.In some cases this trick has helped.

Try Swapping the circuit breaker for power seats with circuit breaker for power windows and see if it helps.

If that is not helping and then,
It's possible one of the wires going into the door has broken. These wires flex every-time you open or close the door, and it's not at all uncommon for this to happen.

Try operating the switch with the door open. If no luck, try grabbing the wire harness that goes between the door and the car up near the hinges and wiggle it around while operating the switch.

Try using both switches. Check the wires inside the boots running from the doors to the body.

If you notice no sound or no movement in any of windows,
Then it could be a bad power window switch, but the main power wire does go through the door.. and if this wire is severed none of the windows will work.
It's possible the wire isn't completely broken.. maybe held on with one or two strands.. not carrying enough voltage.

Test the voltage to the switch and see if its working or not.If switch is checked out ok,then its power window motor issue.

You have to remove door panel then check for power at the motor is its got power than replace the motor.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Disconnect the negative battery cable. IMPORTANT: When removing a door trimpanel or switch plate, disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will eliminate the possibility of shorting out the switch if you use a screwdriver, an awl, or other metal object in order to remove the switch from the harness.
Remove the front door warning reflector.
Remove the door panel screw through the hole in the door warning reflector opening.
Remove the screw from the arm-rest pull handle.
Use a flat-bladed tool in order to pry the front door switch bezel assembly upward. Apply inboard pressure against the rear retaining clip.

Disconnect:
Power door lock switch connector, if equipped.
Power window switch, connector if equipped.
Power mirror switch, connector if equipped (left side only).
Remove the front door switch bezel.
Remove the door panel screw through the switch bezel opening.
Remove the window regulator handle, if equipped.
Use a flat bladed tool in order to remove the rear deck release switch bezel.
Disconnect the rear deck release switch connector.
Gently disengage the door trim panel retaining clips.
Remove the door trim panel from the door.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Install the front door trim panel to the door. Ensure that all of the trim panelretainers are secured.
Install the inside door handle bezel.
Connect the rear deck release connector.
Install the rear deck release switch bezel. Press the bezel firmly into place.
Install the window regulator handle to the door.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the door trim panel screw through the switch bezel opening. TightenTighten the door trim panel screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
Connect:

Power door lock switch connector, if equipped.
Power window switch connector, if equipped.
Power mirror switch connector, if equipped.
Install the front door switch bezel assembly to the front door trim panel.
Install the door trim panel screw to the arm-rest pull handle. Tighten Tighten the door trim panel screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
Install the door panel screw through the hole in the front door warning reflector. Tighten Tighten the door trim panel screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
Install the front door warning reflector.
Connect the negative battery cable.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Motor and actuator must be removed as an assembly. Do not attempt separation of motor and actuator. Replacement parts are not available separately.

Remove the door Trim panel.
Remove the electrical connection from the power window motor.
Remove the power window motor retaining bolts.
Remove the power window motor assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Install the power window motor assembly to the vehicle.
Install the power window motor retaining bolts. Tighten Tighten the power window motor retaining bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in) .
Install the electrical connector to the power window motor.
Install the door trim panel.
