Its not very hard.The procedure is as follows :---
On the plastic insert that the steel shaft goes down into for the head rest has a release button on the side. Lift the head rest all the way to the last notch then push in on this tab or button then continue to lift on the head rest and it will retract from the plastic inserts on the top of the seat. If you have your owners manual there is a picture of how to do this or the location of these buttons on page 65. It shows how you push it in to adjust the seat headrest up or down. Once you reach the highest point continue to push in and it will release.
