2005 Chevrolet Avalanche: Oxygen Sensor Location Diagram?

Where is O2 sensor located. How many O2 sensors are there on Chevy Avalanche and When to replace the O2 Sensors.

The details with Diagrams are as follows:---

On Chevy Avalanche there are 4 Oxygen Sensors. 2 before the Catalytic converters and 2 after the Catalytic converter:

See the diagram shown below:----
Part number 1,2,10 and 11.
chevy o2 sensor

Unlike older vehicles when it was suggested to replace them every 80,000 miles or so, today's O2 sensors only need to be replaced when they actually fail and set a fault code. This is because of the cleaner fuel today as well as more efficient engines that burn less rich than before.

So, its not necessary to replace O2 Sensor after particular miles unless they have failed, dont replace them.

This details will help.
Thanks.

1993 Pontiac Firebird V8: Very slow to Accelerate?

Common complain on these engine models.

Its a old model car.

There are few tests and inspection necessary to confirm the fault causing the problem.

On 1993 Firebird formula didnt have alot of get up and go to begin with. Although the 6sp manual transmission version did have a top speed of around 150mph, the 1/4 mile time is only 14.9 seconds, which is not very fast. It only has 275hp and 325ft lbs of torque.

So if you are referring to take off times and fast acceleration, it really wasnt there to begin with.

If you just mean that it barely accelerates and seems to be bogging down on acceleration or hesitation, then parts needs to be checked out.

Check and confirm this information:---------

Is the check engine light on?

How does the engine run at idle - smooth, misfiring?

Any exhaust smoke while idling or accelerating from a stop? If so, what color and does it smell like fuel, coolant, or oil?

The first 2 steps at this point are to first pull the plugs and inspect them for being not just worn, but for signs of running rich(black and sooty) or too lean(whitish) and go from there in of course replacing the plugs, but then testing for vacuum leaks, check fuel pressure regulator vacuum line for fuel in it(replace regulator if found), and if ok, check O2 sensor for being black from soot and replace if needed,

2nd step would be to test engine compression. A worn out engine with low compression will be slow and loss of power on acceleration. if compression on any cylinders are under 100psi, or more than 10% difference between lowest and highest number, then unfortunately a rebuild is in order.

Start by troubleshooting this possibilities. This will help to confirm the issue.

Thanks.

1992 Chrysler Jeep Cherokee: A/C System Pressure is Same on Both High and Low?

In this condition the A.C cooling problem will be noticed.

The 1992 year Chrysler Jeep came with R12 from the factory.if Your jeep is using R134A, then it was converted.

It wasnt until late 1994-early 1995 that R134a became available.

the system calls for 38 ounces, but with R134A conversion, less is installed due to molecule differences in the refrigerant. The industry rule of thumb is 80% of called for. So for yours that will be 30ounces.

Ok, pressure should be 28-35psi on low side and 175-220psi on high side. If it were a restriction in the expansion valve, pressure would be high on the low side, but near normal on the high side.

Yours is neither sucking on the low side, nor pumping on the high side, hence the high low side pressure, and low high side pressure.

If you are positive of the system being at the correct level and compressor engaging, then only one thing causes this - weak compressor. It needs to be replaced.

So the compressor needs to be inspected and tested before getting replaced.

As per description it says compressor is faulty.

This will help.
Thanks.

1998 Mercury Mystique: Engine cooling fan not Running?

After driving for few minutes the engine overheats and fan should come ON.But out of two fans only one comes up and other engine cooling fan not coming up and also A/C is not working.

It can be Faulty cooling fan or its the issue with Engine cooling fan Relay.

But before replacing the relay, unplug the wiring harness connector to the engine fan and do 2 things.

First, run jumper wires from the battery to the cooling fan to make sure that the fan runs and hasnt failed due to a short in the harness.

Next, you need to carefully check the harness connector where you thought you saw scorching and see if any of the wires are melted or if connector is melted, allowing the wires to touch and short out and if found, repair the wires.

If all is ok and fan runs, then in the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment, swap out the cooling fan relay(highlighted in yellow) with another relay to see if the fan comes on:

The Relay diagram is shown below:----
Engine cooling fan relay

To jump the wire from battery to fan motor.

You will need a couple of long wires that both ends are stripped to expose the wires. Connect one to the positive end on the battery and one to the negative. Then touch the other ends to the 2 terminals on the fan motor connection terminals on the fan itself(where harness connector plugs into).

You do have to use caution to prevent from shocking yourself by touching the ends of the wires. If not comfortable doing this, then you want a friend with mechanical experience to do this or have a mechanic do this.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2006 Honda Odyssey: Check fuel cap and engine surge?

Check fuel cap message comes up and Engine surge while driving.
Fuel cap gets cracked or worn out or gets loose and cause emission leak.

In this case before having the dealership do any diagnostics, you need to install a Honda fuel cap. Most aftermarkets fuel caps don't seal properly which will cause an evpaorative emission leak in the system due to poor seal.

If, after installing a factory fuel cap, you still have an issue, then the system will need to be smoke tested for where the leak in the evaporative system is that is still setting the warning message and causing surge you feel.

This will help.
Thanks.

2000 Dodge Intrepid: Only heat no cold?

Only heat works no cold air.Temperature control not making any change.

On this model it has Manual temp control buttons.

It can be issue with control module itself. But there other possibilities too. Before changing any other thing it advisable to check other possibilities too.
Go through further troubleshooting mentioned below:-------

Most of the time it is due to a faulty temperature blend door actuator, but may be the blend door itself. Access the actuator and disconnect the harness connector to it. Use jumper wires from 12v source or battery to apply voltage to the #1 terminal and a ground wire to the #2 terminal. then apply power to the #5 terminal while #2 terminal is grounded. If the actuator doesnt work, then replace actuator(directions to access and replace are below). If it does work, then the blend door is bad and this unfotunately means the whole dash has to come out to replace it
The help procedure is mentioned below:----

blend door actuator

TEMPERATURE DOOR ACTUATOR

The blend-air (temperature) door actuator is an electric motor which mechanically positions the temperature door. A feedback strip in the actuator allows the computer control to know the exact position of the temperature door at all times. The blend-air door actuator is not serviceable and must be replaced if found to be defective.

The temperature door actuator is located at the bottom of the heater housing at the center tunnel

REMOVAL

  1. Open hood and disconnect the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
Remove left and right underpanel silencer/ducts.
Remove two screws from actuator which are accessible from the right side of center stack.
Remove one screw from actuator on left side.
Pull actuator straight down from shaft and disconnect electrical connection. Upon removal, note the shaft position of the actuator, because the shaft on this motor is keyed. When installing new actuator, its shaft must be positioned in the same location.temperature door actuator

INSTALLATION

For installation, reverse the above procedures.

This will help.
Thanks.

2003 Ford Taurus: A/C Fan not Coming On Time?

AC blower/heater fan is running and starting up.But its not coming up on required time.

You will notice that it comes up when pressure gets too high like 320psi or 350psi or even more then that.

This is most likely a faulty ac dual pressure switch. If it fails, the fan wont come on at proper time and the compressor wont kick off when pressure gets too high, which 350psi is.

As per wiring diagrams if you see:-----
The  fan operation is controlled from the pcm, when the pcm turns the ac clutch relay on it should also turn on the fan relay but isnt. The fan kicks on when high side pressure reaches more then  300psi , and in this condition  compressor  stays engaged as well as pressure then drops and this is not good for compressor.

The pcm gets 2 signals for fan control - one from the ect sensor and one from the dual pressure switch:---
See the wiring diagram shown below for your help:-----

ford A/C wiring diagram

So if the dual pressure switch is acting up the pcm dose not recieve a signal to trun fans on for normal operation.
If dual pressure switch is not working properly, two things happen - head pressure goes up too high as the pressure switch should cut the compressor off when pressure gets too high and fan doesnt cut on when it should to help keep the pressure lower.

And this explains that the signal to the compressor and the fans is not correct due to the dual pressure switch not functioning correctly which is causing the pressure to rise too high and your fan not to turn on until pressure is at 350.

This details will help.

Thanks.

2011 Volkswagen Jetta: Loud Screeching Noise from Wheels?

Yes common issues on Cars/Trucks.

The Squealing or Screeching noise coming up while driving at slow speeds but this noises gets low or disappears while driving at highway speeds.

Try this, pull the wheel and pull the caliper to check for small rocks between the caliper and rotor.

Also, with the wheel off, spin the rotor and look behind it to see if the dustshield got bent and is hitting the rotor.

And check for rocks between the dustshield and rotor.

I have seen too many bent dustshields to count as well as found rocks between rotor and caliper and rotor and dustshield many times. Although not a danger and will not cause an accident or loss of brakes, if left too long(300-500 miles) unattended, it can cause scoring of the brake rotor and require its replacement.

Getting this possibilities checked will help.

Thanks.

2005 Volvo S80: Necessary to Replace Receiver/Drier For A/c?

When the Vehicle A/C system is disassembled or open or taken Apart.
Its mostly necessary to replace the Receiver/ Drier part.

Yes, the receiver/drier contains what is called a deccisant bag, which is designed to absorb moisture in the system. When you open up the system to replace any parts, the deccisant bag fills with moisture from the atmosphere and its effectiveness is greatly reduced.

You can decline to have it replaced, but if you do so then  there will be no warranty on the job of getting the proper cooling from A/C system, as you have declined required work. The system likely will not get as cold either since the receiver drier can no longer pull the moisture out of the system.

So getting this component replaced. If the A/C Repair center is recommending it.

This details will help.

Dodge RAM Cab: Brake pedal loose after replacing Brake Calipers?

Tried Bleeding brakes but brake pedal gets loose or gets stuck up.All started after replacing Brake caliper.

Yes this is common.

Its not problem with brake bleeding procedure.

But the problem mostly lies in brake caliper.

The first thing is to check the placement of the caliper bleeder screws on the front calipers. They are supposed to be at the top of the caliper, above the brake hose to caliper connection:

See the help Diagram shown below:----
caliper image

If they are towards the bottom or facing the bottom, then the calipers are on the wrong sides. When bleeder is at the bottom, there is an air pocket at top of caliper that will never bleed out. Swap sides with calipers and rebleed and you are good to go.

2007 Dodge 3500 4x4: ABS and Parking Brake Warning light on Dash?

While driving ABS and Park brake warning light comes up on dashboard panel.

This indicates error code stored in ABS module and ECM.
The Error codes needs to be scanned by scan tool.

In most cases this problem is related to faulty Speed Sensor.

Or wiring pigtail to the speed sensor connector is loose or broken.
First inspect this .

Many a times you replace the faulty part but still the Warning lights again come up on dash.

In that case try the reset procedure for cars Engine control system.

For that, disconnect both battery cables from the battery and tape the battery cables ends together for 10 minutes(this discharges the capacitors in the module to erase the fault codes). After 10 minutes untape and reconnect the cables to the battery.

IF the warning lights come back on, then either one of two things - there is a short in the harness between the sensor connector and the abs control module or there is a broken tooth on the tone ring the rear sensor reads. Check wiring harness from end of sensor connector back to the abs control module for breaks/cuts/chafing and repair as needed. If ok, then the rear differential cover has to come off to inspect the tone ring for broken teeth or cracks in it and replaced.

Getting this possibilities checked will help.
Thanks.

2006 Volvo S40: A/C Runs Intermittently?

Air conditioner is running sometimes for a while then just stops.
In this cases you will notice that A/c stops working but fan just keeps on running.

In this types of problem there is no one single possibility. There are multiple possibilities that can cause this problem.

First thing you have to inspect is compressor. Is the compressor engaging or not engaging when A/c stops running.

there are many possible causes:

-low refrigerant
-faulty compressor
-faulty compressor clutch coil
-faulty pressure switch
-short/open in wiring harness
-internal fault in climate control panel
-fault in ecm
-restriction in the condensor
-restriction in the expansion valve

Unfortunately, as you can see, there is no one single cause. The first step is to read the high and low pressure readings with an ac manifold gage on a test drive to see what the readings are when it quit blowing cold air.

This will let you know or confirm if there is any restriction in either the condensor or expansion valve, if refrigerant is low, or if the compressor disengages.

If compressor disengages, then electrical testing has to be performed to see why and where the signal is lost.

I really wish I could tell you that it is one single thing and you just need to replace "X part", but that is not the case as professional testing is really required for this in order to find the underlying cause out of the several possible causes.

This detail will help.
Thanks.

Valvoline Syn power synthetic oil for Chrysler MS-6395?

Unfortunately Valvoline Syn power synthetic oil does meet MS6395 requirements:

Please refer the oil specification chart mentioned below for better understanding on Valvoline oil details:--------

Valvoline Synpower synthetic oil

Till yet there is no update given by Valvoline that their Next Generation oil meets MS-6395 requirements, so  stay away from using it on your particular car/vehicle model.

Full synthetic oil is engineered to last 10,000 miles, but most auto manufacturers since the mid 2000s has set oil change recommendations at between 7500 miles and 10,000 miles.

You can go 8000 miles on full synthetic oil safely, but most people, including me, change their synthetic oil at 5-6000 miles.

2000 Chevy Corvette: Vehicle runs hot when A/C is ON?

Engine gets overheated hot in traffic when A/c is turned on.

But in Normal open road it works fine.

In this types of cases the thermostat and cooling fan needs to be monitored.

There are two engine cooling fans on Chevy corvette 2000 year model vehicle.

So first you do need to verify that both fans are properly  working. For that you may need to use a flashlight to see it spinning. If it isnt, then the basics of checking for power to the motor, and if no power, then checking the cooling fan relays and fuse(both labeled) in the engine compartment fuse box.

If no power at the fuses, then engine coolant temperature sensor and ac pressure switches will need to be tested and finally, if needed, the pcm tested.

If the fan is working, then first check for any missing, cracked or broken fan shroud that is allowing for inefficient fan cooling.

If ok, then both ect sensor and ac pressure switch and pcm will need to be monitored with a scan tool to see if the fans are coming on at proper temperature and ac pressure and then fan monitored to see that it is spinning at proper speeds.

I know that sounds like a lot, but with symptoms described, this is in the fan operation in some capacity and will require going thru the above steps to find the underlying cause and then repair.

This details will help.
Thanks.

Ford F150: Front Wheel Bent?

The Front wheel is bent .It seems like wheel is sitting at an angle when looking at it head on.

Ok, that means that the camber is out of specs. - this can be from a rusted out shock tower, broken shock, upper or lower control arms or control arm bushings worn, bent spindle/hub or even worn out upper balljoint.

If the shop you took it too doesnt specialize in front end work, I would suggest finding a good front end shop in your area to do a proper shakedown and inspection to see which of the above is responsible, but it will be one of those.

Costs can range from $90 for a broken shock up to about $400 parts and labor for a bent spindle. Control arms or bushings will run around $200-250 parts and labor. Balljoint a little less.

As long as you know which part to replace, yes. I would have a front end shop at least do the diagnosis for you so that you know what to replace. A proper shakedown does take experience to know what part is causing the problem. The only exception to a repair at home would be a rusted out shock tower- this require a torch and welder to repair

This details will help.

2002 Dodge Grand Caravan: OBD Error codes P1684 and P0303?

This are Obd error codes which gets stored in cars computer also called as ECM.

This error codes which came up means as follows:-----

P1684 is for battery disconnected in the last 50 ignition cycles. If the battery was disconnected for any reason within last 50 times the engine has been started, we can ignore this code. If it hasnt, then a possible loose connection at the battery or low voltage/weak battery condition exists.

P0303 is the cause of the shuddering. This is an engine misfire in cylinder #3. This could be from a bad or broken spark plug, faulty or loose plug wire at the plug or coilpack, fault coilpack, burnt/dropped valve, faulty fuel injector.

Get the Compression test done for cylinder number 3 and other cylinder. If the compression is low on cylinder number 3,then it has to be replaced.

1997 Buick Lesabre: A/C stopped Blowing cold?

On Buick Lesabre 1997 Year model Vehicle it has Automatic Temperature  controls with separate Controls for driver's and passenger side temperature adjustment.

In this case first the A/C stopped blowing cold at passenger side and then stopped blowing at driver side.

Ok, the automatic climate control does not have vacuum controls. The blend doors are electronically controlled by the climate control unit and actuators at the blend doors.

Hence one side stopped working and then the other, this majorly indicates that the climate control module failing rather than both the driver and passenger side blend door.

If the shop doing the work does not have a scan tool that can test the climate control unit and the temperature blend door actuators, you will need to have another shop test it or have a dealer test the system.

This needs to be done before spending money on replacing the doors when it is unlikely that both have failed at once.

This details will help.
Thanks.
