Engine Oil Pressure Warning Indicator Switch
TESTING
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
The oil pressure warning indicator switch (also called a sender unit) receives battery voltage with the ignition switch in the RUN, BULB TEST or START position. The instrument cluster will turn the indicator ON during engine startup for a bulb check. The indicator is grounded by the fuel pump/oil pressure switch with a low oil pressure condition.
TESTING
"OIL" Pressure Indicator Stays ON, With Engine Running and Normal Oil Pressure
- Disconnect the fuel pump/engine oil pressure indicator switch at the engine.
- With the ignition switch in the ON position, and with the engine running, is the "OIL" indicator ON-
- If not, replace the indicator switch.
- If the "OIL" indicator is still ON, check the circuit for a short to ground somewhere between the instrument cluster connection and the oil pressure switch terminal A. If okay, the instrument cluster may need to be serviced.
- Disconnect the fuel pump/engine oil pressure indicator switch.
- Connect a fused (3 Amp) jumper between terminal A (tan wire) and ground. With the ignition switch in the ON position, is the "OIL" indicator ON-
- If yes, check for a poor connection at the switch terminal. If okay, replace the switch.
- If no, look for an open between the instrument cluster connection and the oil pressure switch terminal. If okay, the instrument cluster may need to be serviced.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
- Raise and safely support the vehicle.
- Drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
- Unplug the electrical connector from the oil pressure warning switch.
- Unthread and remove the switch.
To install:
- Install the oil pressure warning switch and tighten securely.
- Plug in the electrical connector.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Add the proper type and amount of engine oil.
This details will help.
Thanks.
