Cylinder Head
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
The details are as follows :-----
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cableIgnition coil coversIntake manifold coverAir intake tubeAccelerator cableCruise control cableEVAP canister, breather, water bypass hoses and the bypass pipe boltFuel linesBrake booster vacuum lineIntake manifold vacuum linePositive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve and hosePower steering hose clampIntake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) actuatorWiring harness holder and joint connector - Support the engine with a jack and a block of wood.
Side engine mount bracketAccessory drive beltsPower steering pumpAlternatorIntake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connectorIdle Air Control (IAC) valve connectorThrottle Position (TP) sensor connectorManifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connectorEvaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve connectorEngine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connectorRadiator fan switch connectorsECT gauge sending unit connectorCrankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connectorTop Dead Center (TDC) sensor connectorExhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) connectorVariable Valve Timing and Valve Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) solenoid valve connectorVTEC oil pressure switch connectorOil pressure switch connectorIgnition coilsIntake manifoldFuel injector connectorsFuel supply manifoldFuel injection air control valve vacuum linesFront coverTiming beltRadiator hosesHeater hosesFront and rear exhaust manifoldsCoolant cross-over pipeValve covers - Loosen the cylinder head bolts in sequence and 1 / 3 turns until all bolts are loose.
- Remove the cylinder head.
To install:
- Align the crankshaft and camshaft sprocket TDC marks as shown.
- Install the cylinder heads with new gaskets.
- Apply clean engine oil to the cylinder head bolt threads and flanges.
- Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence as follows:
- Step 1: 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
- Step 2: 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm).
- Step 3: 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
- Install or connect the following:
Valve coversCoolant cross-over pipeFront and rear exhaust manifoldsHeater hosesRadiator hosesTiming beltFront coverFuel injection air control valve vacuum linesFuel supply manifoldFuel injector connectorsIntake manifoldIgnition coilsOil pressure switch connectorVTEC oil pressure switch connectorVTEC solenoid valve connectorEGR connectorTDC sensor connectorCKP sensor connectorECT gauge sending unit connectorRadiator fan switch connectorsECT sensor connectorMAP sensor connectorTP sensor connectorIAC valve connectorIAT sensor connectorAlternatorPower steering hose clampPower steering pumpSide engine mount bracketPCV valve and hoseIntake manifold vacuum lineBrake booster vacuum lineFuel linesCruise control cableAccelerator cableIntake manifold coverIgnition coil coversAccessory drive beltsAir intake tubeEVAP control canister hose and vacuum hoseNegative battery cable - Fill the cooling system.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
