How to Replace Chevy Uplander Heater core?


The Procedure is Similar for Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana, Saturn Relay, Buick Terraza car models.

Heater Core replacing basic details:---

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Drain the engine cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following: 
    NOTE
    Cap off the heater core inlet and outlet pipes to prevent coolant spilling inside the vehicle



    Heater hoses from the heater core



    Floor air outlet duct, if necessary
    Heater core cover screws and cover
    Heater core pipe clamp screw
    Heater core

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heater core
    Heater core pipe clamp screw
    Heater core cover and screws
    Floor air outlet duct, if removed
    Heater hoses and clamps
  2. Refill the cooling system to the correct level.
  3. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Auxiliary Heating & Air Conditioning Component Heater Core
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Drain the engine cooling system.
  3. Properly evacuate and recover the A/C system refrigerant.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Left rear quarter trim panel
    Raise and support vehicle
  5. Remove the level ride air compressor as follows:
    1. Remove the electronic level control ELC/TRAILER fuse.
    2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    3. Remove the A/C hoses for access.
    4. Remove the air compressor
    5. Squeeze the clips on the side of the air compressor filter in order to remove the filter from the underbody rail.
    6. Remove the compressor bracket bolt.
    7. Remove the compressor bracket nuts. Allow the compressor to hang from the bracket hook.
    8. Remove the air line from the air dryer.
    9. Disconnect the air compressor electrical connector.
    10. Rotate the air compressor and the bracket 90 degrees in order to disengage the compressor bracket hook from the vehicle.
    11. Remove the air compressor with the air compressor bracket.
    12. Remove the air compressor dryer.
  6. Remove the auxiliary A/C line block fitting.
  7. Remove the unit sealing washers and discard them.
  8. Cap or tape the A/C lines to prevent contamination.

  9. Remove the auxiliary heater hoses from the heater core pipes.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    A/C outlet pillar duct
    A/C outlet duct
    Blower motor electrical connector
    Blower motor resistor electrical connector
    Temperature actuator electrical connector
    HVAC module assembly bolts and nut
    Left power sliding door (PSD) module from the mounting bracket and reposition aside, if equipped
    HVAC module from vehicle

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    New seals onto the heater core
    Heater core mounting bracket
    New pipe seal onto the heater core
    Heater core into the HVAC module
    Heater core mounting screws; tighten screws to 14 inch lbs. (1.6 Nm)
    Heater pipe clamp screw; tighten screw to 14 inch lbs. (1.6 Nm)
    HVAC module body seals
    HVAC module assembly to the vehicle
    HVAC module assembly bolts and the nut, tighten bolts/nut to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
    PSD module
    Temperature actuator electrical connector
    Blower motor resistor electrical connector
    Blower motor electrical connector
    A/C outlet duct; tighten bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
    A/C outlet pillar duct; tighten bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
    Raise and support vehicle
    Heater hoses to heater core pipes
    New sealing washers onto the A/C line
    A/C line block fitting bolt; tighten bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
  2. Install the level ride air compressor as follows:
    1. If removed, install the air compressor filter hose to the air compressor at 2 places.
    2. Install the air compressor to the air compressor bracket. Tighten the bracket to 37 inch lbs. (50 Nm).
    3. Install the air compressor bolts/screws. Tighten the air compressor bolts/screws to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
    4. Install the air compressor shield. Tighten the bolts to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
    5. Install the air compressor relay to the air compressor bracket.
    6. Install the air compressor dryer.
    7. Install the air compressor bracket to the underbody rail and rotate the air compressor bracket 90 degrees in order to allow the air compressor to hang from the air compressor bracket hook.
    8. Connect the air compressor electrical connector.
    9. Install the air line to the air dryer.
    10. Install the air compressor bracket nuts. Tighten the air compressor bracket nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    11. Install the air compressor bracket bolt. Tighten the air compressor bracket bolt/screw to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    12. Install the air compressor filter to the underbody rail.
    13. Install the A/C hoses if previously removed.
    14. Lower the vehicle.
    15. Install the ELC/TRAILER fuse.
  3. Install the left rear quarter trim panel.
  4. Refill the cooling system.
  5. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.
  6. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures, and then check the climate control operation. Check the system for leaks.
