Rocker Arms & Shafts
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Details are as follows :----
3.0L DOHC VIN S Engine
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cableUpper intake manifoldValve covers - Rotate the crankshaft so that the camshaft lobe on the valve to be serviced is pointing directly away from the valve.
- Install special tool Valve Spring Compressor 303-473.
- Compress the valve spring and remove the rocker arm. Repeat for each arm to be removed.
NOTEIf the rocker arms are to be reused, ensure that they are installed in the same position that they were removed from.
To install:
- Compress the valve spring and install the rocker arm. Repeat for each arm to be installed.
- Install or connect the following:
Valve coversUpper intake manifoldNegative battery cable - Start the engine and check for proper operation.
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
NOTEKeep the rocker arms in order for installation.

To install:
NOTE
The rocker arm bolts are tightened with the valves closed. Rotate the crankshaft as necessary to position the lifter on the base circle of the camshaft lobe before tightening the corresponding rocker arm bolt.
- Install the rocker arms. The rocker arm bolts are tightened in two steps as follows:
- Step 1: 96 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
- Step 2: 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
- Install or connect the following:
Valve coversUpper intake manifoldNegative battery cable - Start the engine and check for proper operation.
