Crankshaft Position Sensor
OPERATION
TESTING
Instructions are as follows :-----
Operation
The CKP sensor, located on the engine front cover near the crankshaft pulley, is used to determine crankshaft position and crankshaft rpm. The sensor is a magnetic reluctance type which senses the passing of teeth on a tone wheel because the teeth disrupt the magnetic field of the sensor. This disruption creates a voltage fluctuation, which is monitored by the PCM.
Testing
- Measure the voltage between the sensor CKP sensor terminals by backprobing the sensor connector.
- If the connector cannot be backprobed, fabricate or purchase a test harness. Sensor voltage should be more than 0.1 volt DC with the engine running and should vary with engine RPM.
- If voltage is not within specification, the sensor may be faulty.
This will help.
Thanks.
