How to replace Alternator on 2007 Ford Taurus?

The instructions are similar for 2006 and 2007 ford Taurus Car models.

The details to replace Alternator is as follows :----

Alternator
DIAGNOSIS & TESTING
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

This vehicle is equipped with a powertrain control module (PCM)-controlled charging system; the PCM determines the optimal voltage setpoint for the charging system and communicates this information to the voltage regulator. The PCM-controlled charging system is unique in that it has two unidirectional communication lines between the PCM and the generator/regulator. Both of these communication lines are pulse-width modulated. The generator communication (GEN COM) line communicates the desired setpoint from the PCM to the voltage regulator and the generator monitor (GEN MON) line communicates the generator load and error conditions to the PCM. The third pin on the voltage regulator, the A circuit pin, is a dedicated battery voltage sense line.

Pin 1:This is the generator monitor (GEN MON) circuit. The PCM monitors this circuit to determine the generator load and error conditions to the PCM.
Pin 2: This is the generator communication (GEN COM) circuit. The PCM determines the optimal voltage setpoint for the charging system and communicates this information to the voltage regulator through the GEN COM circuit.
Pin 3:This is the A terminal battery voltage sense circuit and is used to sense battery voltage.

Diagnosis & Testing

CAUTION
Do not allow any metal object to come in contact with the housing and the internal diode cooling fins with the ignition switch in the ON or OFF positions. A short circuit may result and burn out the diodes.

NOTE
Test the charging system with Special Service Tool SABRE Electrical System Tester 010-00736 or equivalent.

NOTE
Battery posts and cable clamps must be clean and tight for accurate meter indications.

NOTE
Refer to the battery tester manual for complete directions for testing the charging system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Turn off all lamps and electrical components.
  3. Place the transmission in NEUTRAL and apply the parking brake.
  4. Carry out the Load Test and No Load Test according to the following component tests:
  5. Perform the Load Test as follows:
    1. Switch the tester to the ammeter function.
    2. Connect the positive and negative leads of the tester to the corresponding battery terminals.
    3. Connect the current probe to the generator B+ output terminal, circuit 36 (YE/WH).
    4. With the engine running at approximately 2,000 rpm, adjust the tester load bank to determine the output of the generator. Generator output should be greater than the graph shown below.

  6. Perform the No Load Test as follows:
    1. Switch the tester to the voltmeter function.
    2. Connect the voltmeter positive lead to the generator B+ terminal, circuit 36 (YE/WH) and the negative lead to ground.
    3. Turn all electrical accessories off.
    4. With the engine running at approximately 2,000 rpm, check the generator output voltage. The voltage should be between 13.0 and 15.0 volts.

Removal & Installation

3.0L (VIN S) Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Release the accessory drive belt tension and remove the belt from the alternator pulley.
  4. Remove the power steering hose bracket nut from the alternator mounting bolt.
    NOTE
The left side bolt will come out with the alternator.
  5. Remove the upper alternator bolts.
  6. Remove the right hand front wheel and tire assembly and front fender splash shield.
  7. Remove the screws and the alternator splash shield.
  8. Remove the torque converter inspection cover.
  9. Install a flywheel holding tool.
    NOTE
The crankshaft pulley bolt has a reverse thread. The crankshaft pulley and bolt are a molded composite and are one piece.
  10. Remove the bolt and the crankshaft pulley.
  11. Lower the alternator to allow access to the electrical connectors.
  12. Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
  13. Release the Oxygen (O 2 s) sensor connector locator from the bracket.
  14. Remove the lower alternator bolt.
  15. Disconnect the regulator electrical connector.
  16. Remove the alternator from the vehicle and disconnect the B+ connector nut.
To install:
  1. Connect the B+ connector and tighten the nut to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2. Install the alternator and tighten the lower bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  3. Connect the regulator electrical connector.
  4. Connect the O 2 s sensor connector locator.
  5. Connect the CKP sensor.
    NOTE
The crankshaft pulley bolt has a reverse thread. The crankshaft pulley and bolt are a molded composite and are one piece.
  6. Install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolt to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
  7. Install the torque converter inspection cover.
  8. Install the alternator splash shield.
  9. Install the right hand front fender splash shield and wheel assembly.
  10. Install the upper alternator bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  11. Install the power steering hose bracket nut and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  12. Install the accessory drive belt.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
3.0L (VIN U, 2) Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  3. Release the accessory drive belt tension and remove the belt from the alternator pulley.
  4. Remove the alternator B+ nut and the B+ cable.
  5. Position the B+ cable cover aside.
  6. Position the wiring harness aside.
  7. Remove the bolts and the alternator.
  8. Disconnect the voltage regulator electrical connector.
