Compressor Removal Procedure on Chevy, Buick, Saturn& Pontiac?


The Procedure is Similar for Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana, Saturn Relay, Buick Terraza car models.



Recover the refrigerant from the air conditioning (A/C) system.

Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

Remove the discharge line to compressor nut.

Remove the suction line to compressor nut.

Cap or tape the openings of the A/C lines immediately in order to prevent system contamination.

Remove the discharge and suction lines from the compressor.

Release the drive belt tensioner.

Remove the drive belt from the generator pulley.

Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor.

Raise and safely support the vehicle.

Remove the air deflector bolts and deflector.

Remove the passenger side engine splash shield.

Remove the A/C compressor bolts.

Remove the A/C compressor.




To install:




If replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor oil.

Install the A/C compressor.

Install the A/C compressor bolts and tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).

Install the passenger side engine splash shield.

Install the air deflector and bolts and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

Lower the vehicle.

Release the drive belt tensioner.

Install the drive belt to the A/C compressor.

Install the drive belt to the generator pulley.

Remove the caps or tape from the discharge and suction line openings.

Install NEW sealing washers to the discharge and suction lines.

Install the discharge and suction lines to the compressor. Tighten the nuts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).

Remove the caps or tape from the discharge and suction line openings.

Install NEW sealing washers to the discharge and suction lines.

Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.

Leak test the A/C fittings.
