Its not very hard to replace ignition switch on Ford Taurus.
Go through the procedure.
It covers all step by step details.
You have to remove lower instrument cover.Once you remove the lower instrument cover under the column. You can now see the switch. Its about 2/3 of the way down the column. It will have a fairly large plug going to it. Swich is located right around the area where column bolts up to dash. 2 screws hold switch on column. Remove both screws.Once you remove it, you will see a rod. You have to have key In RUN and then line up rod on new switch and screw back into place. Then plug it in.
Step by Step Removal and Installation procedure:--------
REMOVAL
Disconnect battery ground cable.
Remove lower instrument panel steering column cover.
Rotate ignition switch lock cylinder to the RUN position.
Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
Remove the two screws retaining ignition switch.
Disengage the ignition switch from the actuator.
INSTALLATION
Adjust the ignition switch by sliding the carrier to the ignition switch RUN position.
NOTE: A new replacement ignition switch assembly will be set in the RUN position as received.
IMPORTANT NOTIFICATIONS:-----
Install lower instrument panel steering column cover with screws.
ALSO READ THIS PROCEDURE.
This procedure tells how to remove Ignition Switch Housing and Steering Column
The details to perform this task is as follows:----
To remove/replace steering column housing the steering column will have to be removed to do this task, and the air bag and steering wheel will also have to be removed.
The Housing replacing is a difficult job, so here are the replacement instructions.
REMOVAL
Center front wheels to the straight-ahead position.
Disconnect battery ground cable and positive battery cable. Wait one minute for air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete its stored energy.
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DISCONNECTED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT IS SERVICED. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
See the help diagram shown below:----
