2004 Chrysler Sebring: Engine Runs Fine But Oil Light Stays ON?

Oil warning light comes up on dash.

In this case first confirm if oil is low or oil is not changed from long time.If oil is very old replace it with new/.f its low, then add new fresh oil.Drain old oil.

If oil filter is very old and clogged, replace it with new,

But if you have already tested this basics and replace oil and oil filter.

Then notice what problem is noticed while driving.

If there is no noise and engine runs fine.
Then more troubleshooting is required.
Read as follows :----------

As long as you are not hearing any unusual engine noises like knocking or tapping when the Oil Light is on, then most commonly this is a problem with the Oil Pressure Sensor. This problem is noticed many a times,Over time, the internal resistance of the sensor tends to wear out, and it has a hard time reading the correct oil pressure at an idle. Inspect the electrical connector and make sure there are no loose or oil soaked wires. If the visual inspection checks ok, replace the sensor.

There is also a Technical Service Bulletin on this issue that states to better protect against the sensor failing in the future, a wire terminal/vent,As per your car model year the Part number  :-----
05017800AA, in place of the removed sealing dart, should also be installed.

See below the diagram showing Sensor Location Part:-----

This details will help.
Thanks.

Check engine light ON ?

When the Check Engine Light comes on, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is recorded in the on-board computer memory that corresponds to the fault.
If you see a "check engine" or a "service engine soon" light in your instrument cluster, your car has stored a diagnostic trouble code.Your vehicle has many different sensors that monitor and control the various systems that keep performance, mileage and emissions at an optimum level. This means the computer system on your vehicle has detected a problem within various systems it controls and monitors.
It might be something serious - or it might not.But if other warning lights are on, you ought to cease and inquire in to the issue. The Check Engine Light (which is actually the Malfunction Indicator Lamp or MIL) alerts you when an issue occurs in the engine control technique.Other types of issues will turn the Check Engine Light on, and it will stay on until the fault is diagnosed and repaired.Check Engine Light to come on is probably minor and won't delay your ability to continue driving. There is no way to know until you diagnose the vehicle.

Depending on the nature of the issue, the Check Engine Light may come on, stay on continuously or flash. When the issue goes away, the Check Engine Light goes off. Some intermittent issues will make the Check Engine Light come on only while the fault is occurring. The Check Engine Light also tells you nothing about the issue.A Check Engine Light On issue can be annoying because it seems to have a mind of its own.If no other warning lights are on, and the engine appears to be walking normally (no unusual noises, smells, vibrations, etc.So you don't know in the event you ought to cease immediately or ignore the Check Engine Light and keep on driving.
Common reasons for the CHECK ENGINE light to come on include a loose gas cap, fouled spark plugs, dirty fuel injectors, the failure of an engine sensor such as the oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor or manifold absolute pressure sensor, or an issue in an emissions control technique or tool such as the EGR valve or catalytic converter.

To find out what your vehicles computer sees wrong, you will need a simple to use tool called an OBDII trouble coder reader.
Connect your code reader to the under dash connector. In some vehicles you might need to look around a tiny, on the passenger's side, & around the middle console under a plastic cover.
Locate your vehicle's computer connector ( computer is also called as ECM/ECU), most are on the lower driver's side. The code reader will automatically turn on & prompt you to the next step for code retrieval.
If the trouble code light has been illuminated your vehicle enters into "limp mode" this means it is running on a predetermined program that causes poor mileage and increased emissions.
One time the code has been identified look up the definition on the trouble code chart supplied together with your code reader.
After repairs have been made, clear trouble codes & recheck process.

If you dont have OBD II scan tool. Then you will have to get your car/truck scanned at local car garages, who has this tool.Or at autozone service center, its free to get your car scanned. They do it for free. They charge for parts,if you get it replaced from them, but reading code is free at autozone service centers.
This details and procedure will help you.
