2003 Mitsubishi ECU Reflashing

ECU Re-flashing For Mitsubishi

I would like to share these Mitsubishi ECU Reflashing Garage Experience

A customer visited to our garage regarding Flashing Engine Control Unit/Module.


Customer Vehicle Details:---


Make: Mitsubishi,Model: Montero,Year: 2003

Garage Expert:---


The actual flashing is not required when new ECU is connected to the vehicle,in case of Mitsubishi montero. The ECU is matched to the immobilizer ecu as soon as you program the keys to the new ecu. That is all there is to it on a 2003.

Customers Reply:----
Is it necessary to take the vehicle to the dealer.Also will old working ECU compatible for Mitsubishi montero will work or else i will have to buy new ECU.

Garage Expert:----

Its easy,it can be done manually with proper tools.

There is no need to take the vehicle to the dealer to program up the ecu to the key immobilizer.
Please read and understand these simple detail.


You can use old working ECU work on your vehicle.But to make the replacement computer work in a 2003 all you need to do is hook up the scan tool, access the immobilizer ecu, register the key(s), and the engine ECU and immobilizer ecu will be paired and the engine will run. There is nothing else to it, and no reason to buy a new ECU.Another old but working ECU will support your vehicle.Just make sure its compatible to your vehicle.

But for older car models of same Mitsubishi montero models,these case is completely different.On older models like before year 2000 you could not install a used ECU unless you had the matching used immobilizer ecu, as that year the two were permanently married and would never work mismatched afterward. This changed mid-year 2001 however and does not affect your vehicle.
So in your case,where the vehicle is 2003 Mitsubishi the problem is easy to solve.

Can i remove the ECU from my vehicle and bring it to your garage to get it reprogrammed.

No my dear customer,its not possible.The ECU has to be in the vehicle and then only it can be reprogrammed.

The ecu must be in the vehicle to register the key, no exceptions there.
You can get spare second hand,used ECU online on Ebay and other Auto parts site.It approximately costs about $150 to $200 utmost.

Why my ECU failed.If i replace the faulty ECU,is it possible that my new ECU will fail soon.Is there a problem in my car causing these ECU failure.

Its very rare.I'll tell you that ECU failures are pretty rare on these vehicle brand models, and when they do occur it is normally either one coil dropping out entirely or no power up at all.

How to inspect, test and replace engine control module?

A semi-conductor control for an electronic-ignition system.

Inspect :--

Electronic and computer controlled ignitions use transistors as switches. These transistors are contained inside a control module housing that can be mounted on or in the distributor or remotely mounted on the vehicle's fire wall or another engine compartment surface.
Control modules should be tightly mounted to clean surfaces. A loose mounting can cause a heat build-up that can damage and destroy transistors and other electronic components contained in the module.
Some manufactures recommend the use of a special heat-conductive silicone grease between the control unit and its mounting. This helps conduct heat away from the module, reducing the chance of heat-related failure.
During the visual inspection, check all electrical connections to the module. They must be clean and tight. The wiring insulation should also be intact.
Look for evidence of burning. if there is, check the coil ground strap.
Not all damage can be seen, so test the control module to be sure that it is working properly.

TEST :--

Perform a no-start diagnosis of the ignition system.
Use an ohmmeter to ensure that the ignition module connection to ground is good. one lead of the meter should be connected to the ground terminal at the module and the other to a good ground. zero resistance indicates good continuity in the ground circuit. any resistance reading during this test is unacceptable.
The most effective method of testing for a defective ignition module is to use an ignition module tester, if one is available for that module.
Keep in mind that ignition modules are very reliable. They are also one of the most expensive ignition system components. So, if a module tester is not available, check out all other system components before condemning the ignition module.
The control module can be tested at any of our store locations.

REPLACE :--


The ignition module removal and replacement procedure varies depending on the ignition system. Always follow the procedure in the vehicle manufacture's service manual.

For a distributor-mounted module:

Remove the battery wire from the coil battery terminal, and remove the inner wiring connector on the primary coil terminals. Remove the spark plug wires from the cap.
Rotate the distributor latches one-half turn and lift the cap from the distributor.
Remove the two rotor retaining bolts and the rotor.
Remove the primary leads and the pickup leads from the module.
Remove the two module mounting screws, and remove the module from the distributor housing.
Wipe the module mounting surface clean, and place a light coating of silicone heat-dissipating grease on the module mounting surface.
WARNING
Lack of silicone grease on the module mounting surface may cause module overheating and damage.
Install the module and tighten the module mounting screws to the specified torque.
Install the primary leads and pickup leads on the module.
Be sure the lug on the centrifugal advance mechanism fits into the rotor notch while installing the rotor, and tighten the rotor mounting screws to the specified torque.
Install the distributor cap, and be sure the projection in the cap fits in the housing notch.
Push down on the cap latches with a screwdriver, and rotate the latches until the lower part of the latch is hooked under the distributor housing.
Install the coil primary leads and battery wire on the coil terminals. Be sure the notch on the primary leads fits onto the cap projection. Install the spark plug wires.

EPC light ON AUDI?



Lots of parts testing is required.

The best idea is to scan your Engine Control Unit with a VAG-COM, Bosch KTS, ... diagnosis tool. If you have one of these dedicated scan tools you will find definitely the engine fault code-"P...." and the clear description of the error. Also you can try to erase this error (or these errors) from the Engine Control Unit memory. If errors are "sporadic" type you certain have permission to erase them, also for some kinds of "static" errors. Because your Engine "MIL" - Malfunction Indicator Lamp keeps coming "ON" and "OFF" you have a big good hand to clean errors from Engine Management System memory. If you don't have any diagnosis tool, you can also try something else. For check up if the engine have a proper turn, you can successively disconnect each spark plug coil from the engine wiring system, engine idle, car stationary. When you operating this you must be free of chassis ground (battery ground)!!! When you disconnect a spark plug coil and the engine speed (rpm) drops, that means this coil works properly. When one coil disconnected and engine speed (rpm) still remain unaltered, this coil (or spark plug) is out of order. First you can change only the spark plug and check up again. If no changes the coil is defective and must be replaced.

I recommend change all spark plugs on the engine, and after that check up coils.This will help to confirm the problem.
