Car Brakes grabbing?

Brakes that grab, drag, or become pulsating, generally mean parts are not working correctly. When the brakes seem to be overly sensitive to pedal pressure, they are grabbing. Normally this problem is caused by contaminated brake linings. If the linings are covered or saturated with oil, find the source of the oil and repair it. Then replace the pads and refinish or replace the rotor. This will help.

If you need dis-assembly or replacement instructions for any other auto/car part, or you want to ask question related to your car/truck jeep problem then please leave the comment with your details, so I can provide you the required instructions and solutions.

Car Brakes Dragging?

This problem also consumes lots of fuel.
Dragging brakes make the vehicle feel as if it has lost or is losing power as it drives down the road. The problem also wastes a lot of fuel and generates destructive amounts of heat that can cause serious brake damage and brake failure. While trying to find the cause of this problem, check the parking brake first. Make sure it is off. Check the rear wheels to make sure the parking brakes are released when they should be. If the problem is not in the parking brakes, check for sticky or seized pistons at the calipers and wheel cylinders.
Getting this mentioned possibilities checked will help to confirm the brake drag problem.

How to remove ABS Control Unit on Acura Integra?

Go through the procedure and confirm the details for doing this task.

ABS Control Unit

The ABS control unit, or ECU, manages the entire system via inputs from various sensors and programmed decisions which are stored within the unit. This management system includes the pump motor, various electronic solenoids, wheel sensors and an internal self-diagnostic mode. The main function of the ABS control unit is to perform calculations on the signals received from each one of the sensors at the wheels. This will enable it to control the system by actuating solenoid valves that regulate the flow and pressure of the brake fluid to each wheel. The system was designed with a sub function that gives driving signals to the pump motor as well as signals the self diagnostic mode which is a necessity for backing up the antilock braking system.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Except 1997 TL Models

See Figure 1

Fig. Fig. 1: Location of the typical ABS control unit-except 1997 TL models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the right quarter trim panel.
  3. Detach the ABS control unit electrical connectors.
  4. Remove the ABS control unit by removing the mounting fasteners.
To install:
  1. Install the unit in the reverse order of removal.
  2. Check that the ABS light comes on and then goes off once the engine has been started.
  3. Drive the vehicle to ensure that the ABS light does not come on.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the glove box.
  3. Remove the mounting bolts that secure the ABS control unit mounting bracket to the firewall.
  4. Shift the bracket forward to gain access to the control units connectors.
  5. Detach the control unit connectors.
  6. Remove the radiator fan controller module connector.
  7. Unplug the connectors from the ABS control unit.
  8. Remove the bracket from the car.
  9. Remove the radiator fan controller and the ABS control unit mounting bolts.

How to remove Brake Disc Rotor on Acura Integra?

The procedure is as follows.Read it before performing this task.

Brake Disc (Rotor)

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

Fig. Fig. 2: Close up of the brake rotor retaining screws

Fig. Fig. 3: Remove the brake rotor by pulling it over the studs

CAUTION
Older brake pads or shoes may contain asbestos, which has been determined to be cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surface with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! When cleaning brake surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.

  1. Use a siphon or clean turkey baster to remove about half of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle and remove the tire/wheel assembly.
  3. Remove the caliper guide pin or mounting bolts.
  4. Lift the caliper assembly away from the brake rotor.
  5. Use a suitable piece of wire to suspend the caliper assembly from the upper control arm. This will prevent the weight of the caliper from being supported by the brake flex hose which will damage the hose.
  6. If equipped, remove the rotor retaining screws.
  7. Remove the brake rotor by pulling it straight off the wheel mounting studs.
To install:
  1. If installing the rotor on the rear brakes, use a commercially available locknut wrench, or equivalent tool, to turn the caliper piston clockwise into position in the cylinder, then align the cutout in the piston with the tab on the inner pad by turning the piston back.
  2. If installed the rotor on the front brakes, completely retract the piston into the caliper using a large C-clamp or other suitable tool.
  3. Install the brake rotor onto the wheel hub.
  4. Install the caliper assembly over the brake rotor and install the guide pin or mounting bolts.
  5. Fill the master cylinder to the proper level with fresh brake fluid.
  6. Install the tire/wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.
  7. Pump the brake pedal until the brake pads are seated and a firm pedal is achieved before attempting to move the vehicle.

CAUTION
Do not move the vehicle until a firm pedal is obtained.

  1. Road test the vehicle to check for proper brake operation.
InspectionSee Figure 4
Click image to see an enlarged view
Fig. Fig. 4: Use a micrometer to measure the thickness of the brake rotor. You must discard the rotor if it is not within the manufacturer's specifications
Whenever the brake calipers or pads are removed, inspect the rotors for defects. The brake rotor is an extremely important component of the brake system. Cracks, large scratches or warpage can adversely affect the braking system, at times to the point of becoming very dangerous.
Light scoring is acceptable. Heavy scoring or warping will necessitate refinishing or replacement of the disc. The brake disc must be replaced if cracks or burned marks are evident.
If the rotor needs to be replaced with a new part, the protective coating on the braking surface of the rotor must be removed with an appropriate solvent before installing the rotor to the vehicle.
Check the run-out of the hub (disc removed). It should not be more than 0.002 inch (0.050mm). If so, the hub should be replaced.
All brake discs or rotors have markings for MINIMUM allowable thickness cast on an unmachined surface or an alternate surface. Always use this specification as theminimum allowable thickness or refinishing limit. Refer to a local auto parts store or machine shop, if necessary, where rotors are resurfaced.
If the rotor needs to be replaced with a new part, the protective coating on the braking surface of the rotor must be removed with an appropriate solvent before installing the rotor to the vehicle.
