Solved: How to change front outer CV joint on Audi A6 ?

The procedure is as follows :---

Drive axle, removing and installing

Transmission
Gasket For vehicles with manual transmission Always replace, remove protective backing and install on CV joint
Drive axle For vehicles with manual transmission Repairing - See: Axle Shaft\Service and Repair\Front Axle Shaft Assembly/Disassembly Note different length for left and right sides, depending on transmission type Different CV joints depending on engine and/or transmission type CAUTION! Before moving a car from which the drive axle has been removed, first install an outer joint in place of the drive axle --- otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged

Removing

- Remove wheel cover.

On vehicles with alloy wheels, pull cover cap from wheel with special tool 3208.

WARNING! Do not loosen the bolt/washer assembly for the wheel hub unless the car is standing on its wheels --- risk of accident!

- Remove wheel hub-to-drive axle mounting bolt (vehicle standing on wheels).

Note: For vehicles with ABS, pull ABS wheel speed sensor out slightly when removing.

- Disconnect drive axle from transmission flange.
- Press drive axle upward toward front of vehicle.
- Turn steering to full lock and remove drive axle.

Installing

- Replace gasket (if applicable equipped) on inner CV joint.
- Install drive axle in wheel hub.
- Slide drive axle into wheel hub to stop.
- Attach drive axle to transmission flange.

Note: On vehicles with ABS, press ABS wheel speed sensor into wheel bearing housing to stop

- Install new wheel hub-to-drive axle mounting bolt and tighten to specified torque with vehicle standing on wheels.

Vehicles with automatic transmission
Outer CV joints:
Note: Outer constant velocity (CV) joints are packed with G6 grease.

Inner tripod joints:
Tripod joints are packed with 140 g (5 oz) grease G 000 605.
Re-grease joint, if necessary, when replacing joint boot.
Note: If the tools shown in the illustrations are unavailable, equivalent workshop equipment can be used. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the tool you are using.

Clamp drive axle in vise with jaw covers.
Remove clamp.
Push back boot.
Turn in M16 threaded end of special tool 3207 until CV joint is pressed off splined shaft.

Attaching the CV joint boot onto the outer body of the joint frequently requires compressing or squeezing the boot. This produces a vacuum in the joint boot, which may cause a crease to the inside when driving (arrow).
For this reason, after installing the joint boot, vent it briefly by letting some air in at the small diameter end, thus creating a pressure balance and restoring the correct boot shape.
