How to Replace Thermostat on 2007 Ford Taurus?

The instructions are similar for 2006 and 2007 ford Taurus Car models.

The details to replace thermostat is as follows :----

Removal & Installation

3.0L (VIN S) ENGINE

3.0L (VIN U, 2) ENGINE:

3.0L (VIN S) Engine

CAUTION

Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

1. Drain the coolant until the level of the coolant is below the level of the thermostat.
2. Raise the vehicle and support it with jackstands.
3. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet connection.
4. Unfasten the two water inlet connection retaining bolts and remove the water inlet connection.
5. Remove the O-ring seal and thermostat from the water inlet connection. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace as necessary.

To install:

1. Clean the water inlet connection mating surfaces.
2. Install the O-ring, thermostat and the water inlet connection. Refer to the accompanying illustration If you can-t remember how the O-ring and thermostat are positioned.
3. Install the water inlet connection assembly retainers and tighten them to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
4. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water inlet connection.
5. Fill the engine with coolant, start the engine and check for leaks.
6. Stop the engine and top off the coolant recovery reservoir as necessary.

3.0L (VIN U, 2) Engine

1. Drain the coolant until the level of the coolant is below the level of the thermostat.
2. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the water hose connection.
3. Unfasten the three water inlet connection retaining bolts and remove the water hose connection.
4. Remove the gasket and thermostat from the water hose connection. Discard the gasket.

To install:

1. Clean the water inlet connection mating surfaces.
   
   NOTE

   The jiggle valve on the thermostat must be in the up position.
2. Place the thermostat in the water hose connection making sure the thermostat jiggle valve is facing up.
3. Install the new gasket and place the water hose connection assembly into position.
4. Install the water hose connection assembly retainers and tighten them to 89-124 inch lbs. (10-14 Nm).
5. Connect the upper radiator hose to the water hose connection.
6. Fill the engine with coolant, start the engine and check for leaks.
7. Stop the engine and top off the coolant recovery reservoir as necessary.

How to replace thermostat on Acura?

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION: ----

2001-02 Models

For thermostat replacement, refer to the accompanying illustration.

2003-06 Models

NOTE

Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and navigation system, then write down the audio presets. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery first, then the positive cable.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Drain the engine coolant as follows:
   1. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll). Set the displayed temperature on the climate control system to 90°F (32°C), then turn the ignition switch OFF. Make sure the engine and radiator are cool to the touch.
   2. Remove the radiator cap.
   3. Loosen the drain plug, and drain the coolant.
   4. Install a rubber hose (A) on the drain bolt (B) located at the rear of the cylinder block, then loosen the drain bolt.
   5. When the coolant stops draining, tighten the drain bolt.
   6. Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
   7. Remove, drain, and reinstall the coolant reservoir.
4. Remove the thermostat cover, then remove the thermostat.

To install:

1. Install the thermostat with a new rubber seal.
2. Install the battery. Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper, then assemble them and apply grease to prevent corrosion.
3. Fill the radiator with engine coolant and bleed the air from the system, as follows:
   1. Pour Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 (P/N OL999-9001) into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.
      
      NOTE

      Always use Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 (P/N OL999-9001). Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Do not add water.
      
      
      
      NOTE

      The engine coolant capacities (including the reserve tank capacity of 0.6L (0.16 US gal)): After coolant change: 7.1L (1.88 US gal). After engine overhaul: 9.0L (2.38 US gal).
   2. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm until it warms up (the radiator fan comes on at least twice). Make sure the thermostat is open.
   3. Turn off the engine. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   4. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 5 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   5. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   6. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum heat. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 5 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   7. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   8. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 3 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   9. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum heat. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 1,500 rpm for 3 minutes, then turn off the engine.
   10. Check the level in the radiator, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
   11. Repeat the previous 3 steps until the coolant level does not change in the radiator, then install the radiator cap loosely.
   12. Set the climate control or heater control panel to maximum cool. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 2,500 rpm for 1 minute.
4. Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
5. On 2003-06 models, perform the power window unit reset procedure. Resetting the power window control unit is required after performing the following procedures:
   
   
   Disconnecting the battery.

   Removing the No. 8 (20 A) fuse from the under-hood subfuse box.

   Disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit.

   Removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel.

   Disconnecting the driver's door wire harness.
   
   
   1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
   2. Turn the ignition ON (II).
   3. Lower the driver's window all the way down by pushing the driver's switch to the second detent (AUTO DOWN) when the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for 2 seconds.
   4. Raise the driver's window all the way up without stopping by pulling the driver's switch to the second detent (AUTO UP) when the window reaches the top, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO UP position for 2 seconds.
   5. If the window does not work in AUTO, reset the power window control unit according to the above procedure again.
6. Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the audio presets. Set the clock.
